Egypt Critical News Update #7

Demonstrators Under Siege in Liberation Square

Live footage shows demonstrators being attacked and shot at by Mubarak's people while the soldiers allow it. I feel it is important to point out that these were not random thugs or counter demonstrators. They were very well organized and equipped. Strategically they pulled some riot police stunts that I recognized from the WTO demo in Cancun. The bulk of the pro Mubarak organizers and participants were being bus in and are suspected of government police officers in plain cloths.

The demonstrators are now cornered and many are in the front lines by the Cairo Museum on the edges of the Square. Many feel they can not leave for fear of being picked out one by one. Many also feel that surrendering the square is not an option at this point. Sunrise finds demonstrators still being shot at after a short reprieve during morning prayers. Running battles continue. I saw pictures of wounded people being dragged away from the front lines and they looked either dead or seriously wounded. Two demonstrators reported dead. People calling into Al Jazeera from the front lines reported that there was hardly anybody left unscathed by the all night attacks.

The military has shown their true colors.
